Our faith is based on the unseen, as taught to us by the Prophet (SAW). We can only be true believers if our belief is in accordance with the belief of the Prophet (SAW). The key to the doors of paradise is belief. If our beliefs are incorrect or incomplete, then though we may perform the deeds of a Muslim, look like a Muslim, do all that a Muslim does, we will not be judged as such by Allah (SWT).

This belief system is known as ‘Aqaa`id. Our ‘Aqaa`id will protect us from falling prey to the deviant beliefs which the Prophet (SAW) had warned us of and secure us a place in Jannah.

The principles of ‘Aqeedah are those which Allah (SWT) has commanded us to believe in, as mentioned in the verse:

“The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in Allah, His Angels, His Books and His Messengers. They say, ‘We make no distinction between one and another of His Messengers’ – and they say, ‘We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all).’”

[al-Baqarah 2:285]
