At EC we are committed to keeping courses accessible and affordable. This means that we often have to subsidise the costs of learning and charge students less than what the actual costs are. This is especially true of full and part time programmes such as The Alimiyyah and the Arabic Intensive. We then raise the shortfall from the supporters of Islamic Education. However, the amount we subsidise has to be manageable so the organisation does not come under undue stress with other knock-on effects. Course fees are set on this basis. When students cannot afford these fees, any further reduction in fees has to be justified by scholarships.

The Good News

Alhamdulillah, since the recent launch of the Arabic Intensive and the Alimiyyah programmes, the EC management has announced that limited scholarships (towards tuition fees only) are available for these two programmes. These scholarships will mainly pay for the tuition fees of full time students with part time students receiving them on a much more limited basis.

All scholarships are subject to status. Only scholarships that are granted based on merit and aptitude are an exception. This means that scholarships will be means tested and applicants will be expected to pay what they can afford and show that they cannot afford the remainder. This makes it fair for everyone and ensures that no one gets refused admission on the basis of lack of affordability.

EC will give priority to applicants on the Alimiyyah programme. Subject to status, Alimiyyah applicants may be considered for a full scholarship. This is unlikely an applicant who only wants to study the Arabic Intensive. This is because it is easier to justify funding for a Alimiyyah student who is committed to progressing to graduation and subsequently benefiting the community.

As a charity that exists only to serve the community, our aim is simple, people who are able to pay should pay, people who cannot should not be turned away because of it.

Maximum and minimum scholarship amounts subject to status*:

Programme Total fees per year Maximum scholarship possible Minimum amount payable
The Arabic Intensive full-time £3000 £1200 £1800
The Arabic Intensive part-time £1700 £700 £1000
The Alimiyyah full-time £2800 £2800 £0
The Alimiyyah part-time £1600 £1000 £600

*students who receive scholarships do not qualify for any other discounts.

How to apply:

If you feel you are unable to pay for your studies and need help. Please send in a covering letter with your application explaining why you need a scholarship. Explain why you have chosen to study the programme and your level of commitment to it, and the reason why you need the scholarship, and how much you need. Every applicant should make a calculation of how much they can afford and make the scholarship application on that basis. Please ask for what you cannot do without as the organisation is as much in need as you are and a lot of hard work has to be put in to finding the money for the scholarships.

Failure to Complete the Programme

Students on a scholarship scheme who drop out of the course without a valid reason will be charged the full course fees.
