Assalaamu Alaikum and welcome to the Maktab show website. The Maktab show is a joint presentation between Channel S and Ebrahim College and is aimed at people of all ages who wish to learn to recite the Qur’an correctly with Tajweed. It is suitable for beginners as well as those who already know how to recite but want to improve and refine their tilawat.

Reading the Qur’an correctly, with Tajweed, is an obligation for every Muslim, so the need for something like this is greater than we may ourselves realise.

Currently, the Maktab show is running a special, one-month syllabus for Ramadhan that has been prepared to give everyone a quick introduction to Tajweed and a “brush-up” on all the basics of correct recitation.

The show is divided into three parts:

• Theory
• We will begin by covering Makhaarij; correct pronunciation of each individual Arabic letter, as they are the most fundamental elements of correct recitation.
• Then, we will cover vowels and elongation, etc. That means: how and how long we should pronounce each letter.
• Finally, we will cover the beautifying aspects of Tajweed which are essential for refined recitation of the Qur’an.
• Practice
• We will be practicing the correct recitation of essential Du’as that we recite in daily prayers and the final ten Surahs of the Qur’an.
• Live call in
• Viewers will be able to call in and recite the Surah or Dua being practiced on the show so the teacher can give them instant feedback and advice.

The resources used in the show are available for download. We will also upload the video recordings for the practice segment so you can continue practicing once the show is over, or if you missed a show. Please check the links for the resources that you wish to download.
