BA ISLAMIC SCIENCES AND SOCIETY
BA ISLAMIC SCIENCES AND SOCIETY (ISS)
Al-Hamdulillah, subject to successful validation by a British university, EC will launch the BA in 'Islamic Sciences and Society' in the near future. Please bear with us while we await confirmation of this.
The BA will be validated gradually over 3 years with the first year validated as a Certificate in Higher Education, the second year, a Diploma in Higher Education, and finally the third year a BA Honours. This BA will consist of modules on the Islamic Sciences taught in the Alim course with extra modules dedicated to philosophy and social topics such as social cohesion and conflict resolution.
Students who are enrolled on our Alim Course will study the BA as part of it. We also welcome applications from anyone who wants to study the BA independent of the Alim course. Students are required to have 220 UCAS points using the UCAS tariff for entry. Students must also demonstrate profficiency in Arabic either through an A level or equivalent qualification (which can contribute to the 220 UCAS points) or through a prior assessment.
If you do not have any background in Arabic and would like to study the BA in 2009, you may enrol on the 'Arabic Access to BA Islamic Sciences and Society'. This is an intensive part time course that will prepare you for the BA by covering sufficient Arabic language to fulfil the entry requirement. It is also an excellent opportunity to learn a significant amount of Arabic in one academic year.
Students who have an Alim Course background are welcome to apply as their madrasah education may be sufficient for entry provided their level of English is adequate. Mature students may be considered for entry if they have relevant experience and can satisfy the language requirements.
