Course Description
This course develops the learner’s ability in Arabic phonetics specifically for the purpose of the recitation of the Qur’an. The course is designed to cater for complete beginners in Tajweed (who can already read Arabic) as well as those who have some previous knowledge and ability of Qur’an recitation and Tajweed.
Students will study some rules of Tajweed, and have an opportunity to implement such rules in their reading looking into the Qur’an, and lastly learn to recite some surahs by rote. Students are required to turn on their camera when reciting to the teacher.
Duration:
12 weeks (30 hours in total), 2 hours and 30 minutes each lesson
Level: Level 1
Status: Compulsory for all students who wish to learn how to recite the Qur’an correctly.
Prerequisites: The ability to read Arabic and study of Access to Arabic and Tajweed, or its equivalent.

Memorisation: Surah al-Nas - Theory: Recap of makahrij
Practice: Pronunciation of letters
Memorisation: Surah al-Falaq - Theory: Ghunnah of Nun and Meem Mushaddad
Practice: Implementation of Ghunnah of Nun and Meem Mushaddad
Memorisation: Surahs al-Ikhlas - Theory: Qalqalah
Practice: Implementation of Qalqalah
Memorisation: Surahs al-Masad - Theory: Rule of Laam in Allah’s name
Practice: Implementation of the rule of laam in Allah’s name
Memorisation: Surahs al-Nasr - Theory: Rules of raa
Practice: Implementation of the rule of raa in Allah’s name
Memorisation: Surah al-Kafirun - Theory: recap of all rules covered
Practice: Implementation of all rules covered so far

Students will be assessed at the end of the course.
Course Delivery
This course is run either onsite or online. When registering, please choose your preferred option/platform. Please note, we may not have both options available in the same term.

All students will receive the relevant course details, materials 5 days before the course starts. This will include:
