Course Description:
This course is a further study of the theory of Muslim law, based on Al-Wajeez Fi Usul Al-Fiqh by Abdul Karim Zaidan. The following topics will be studied:

- النسخ
- التعادل والترجيح
- الاجتهاد والتقليد
Level: Alimiyyah Programme Year 3
Context:
This module follows on from the AL2 Usul al-Fiqh course. It is a unit in a comprehensive package of modules covering various Islamic sciences including Hadith, Tafsir, Fiqh, Aqidah and Arabic Literature taught in the Alimiyyah 3 programme.
Learning Outcomes:
All students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to translate the text accurately in to English.
- Show understanding of the Arabic text by commenting on it in English so that any ambiguities are alleviated and misunderstandings removed. Any comments should be based upon clarifying complex language or taken from the commentary taught in the course.
Some advanced students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to recall clauses from the text as evidence for a matter related to Islamic Law.
- Provide evidence for each clause by quoting the exact translation or (for less marks) the gist of the verses of the Qur’an and Hadith in English.
The most advanced students will be able to:
- Provide evidence for each clause by quoting verses of the Qur’an and hadith directly in Arabic with translation.
- Reference the above by mentioning at least surah name for verses and hadith source for hadith.
Prerequisites:
Students must complete the Arabic Intensive programme or its equivalent, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.
Students must also study a summery about the Islamic law such as Mukhtasar Al-Quduri as a prerequisite or have studied the equivalent.
Teaching and Learning Strategies:
The classes will be conducted through lectures and discussions.
Course Delivery:
This course will be delivered on campus and streamed live online using an online live streaming platform called ‘Zoom’. Lessons will be recorded and students provided access to them. Further details will be emailed to students 5 days before the course commences insha Allah.
