Arabic Intensive - Fast track


The Arabic Intensive fast-track course is designed to cover all of the core components of grammar that are required for engaging with Arabic texts. The topics of grammar covered will allow a student to start vocalising text (putting in the diacritical markings according to the rules of grammar) and translate literature using a dictionary (Hans Wehr). These skills would allow a student to progress on to the second year of the Arabic Intensive part-time course.

 

The Arabic Intensive fast-track includes a literature component delivered by Shaykh Mujahid Ali.

 

The grammar will be delivered by Ustadh Suhayl Ahmed.

 

Duration 4 weeks intensive DAYTIME

Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm (160 hours)

 

Who is this course for?

This course is for complete beginners to Arabic Grammar. However, it does assume prior knowledge of the following:

* Familiarity with the Arabic alphabet and the ability to read (without comprehension)

* Basic ability to write in Arabic and join the letters

 

After enrolment students will be e-mailed a writing pack that can help in achieving the writing requirement stated above.

 

Students who successfully complete the summer intensive can progress on to the following courses:

1. Arabic Intensive Programme, Year 2 (part-time Sundays, 9am-6pm)

2. Arabic Intensive Programme, Year 2 (part-time Wednesdays, 6pm-9.30pm)

3. Arabic Level 6, Modular 12-week course, 3 hours per week.

* Translating into English

* Answering comprehension questions in Arabic (written)

* Making sentences using the expressions found in the text

 

The texts that will be covered are:

* Who broke the idols? - The story of Ibrahim AS from Abul Hasan al-Nadwi (RA)’s “Qasas al-Nabiyyeen”

* Two first-person narratives from some fictional characters from Abul Hasan al-Nadwi (RA)’s al-Qiraa’at al-Raashidah

* How I spend my day

* A picnic and cooking

* Two Hadiths, one as told in Abul Hasan al-Nadwi (RA)’s al-Qiraa’at al-Raashidah, and the other from Imam Nawawi’s Arba’een

* Who will save you from me?

* Hadith of Jibreel (AS)

 

The grammar will be delivered by Ustadh Suhayl Ahmed and will focus on:

* Sound verbs

* Weak verbs

* Past tense

* Present / Future tense

* Imperative

* The jussive and subjunctive cases

* Pure triliteral verbs 

* Triliteral verbs with extraneous letters in them

* Transitive and intransitive verbs

* Active and Passive verbs

* Negating verbs

 

Nahw

 

* I’rab

* Verbal sentences

* Nominal sentences

* Ghair Munsarif

* Prepositional phrases

* Adjectives

* The construct state

* Gender

* Singular, Dual and Plurals

* Sound plurals

* Broken plurals

* Non-human plurals

* Inna and its sisters

* Kaana and its sisters

* Pronouns * Personal

* Demonstrative

* Relative

* The five objects

* Haal

* Numbers

* Total categorical negation with لا
