Our Maqra’a of Imam Mohammed’s Muwatta took place on Monday 22 October 2018 and was a delightful success with over 100 participants taking part in our packed out main hall.
Guests arrived for a 10am start, with our very own Shaykh Mujahid who introduced our guests: Mufti Barakatullah and Shaykh Akram Nadwi, both lecturers at Ebrahim College, and special guest Shaykh Ziyad Tukla. After a brief introduction by Shaykh Mujahid, Shaykh Akram and Shaykh Ziyad Tukla explained the history and importance of Imam Muhammad bin al-Hasan al-Shaybani and his Muwatta.
Imam Muhammad bin al-Hasan al-Shaybani was a student of Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Malik, as well as the teacher of Imam Shafi’i. His transmission of the Muwatta is one of the most important books of hadith and fiqh.
Participants were asked to bring their own copies of the Muwatta from which they followed Shaykh Tukla’s reading. Shaykh Mujahid, Ustadh Mohammed Hafizur Rahman and EC graduate Maruf Mahbubur, as well as other attendees, took turns to read sections of the book.
The reading was complete by 6pm and each participant was awarded an ijaza (certificate) for their attendance signed by Mufti Barakatullah, Shaykh Akram, Shaykh Mujahid and Shaykh Tukla.
We would like to thank our guests and participants for their attendance and send a special thank you to Shaykh Tukla and the shuyukh and students for making this event so successful.
