Ebrahim College is proud to announce that our first cohort of students have graduated from the Dawrah Al-Hadith Programme. This programme is a one year post graduate programme focusing on advanced Islamic studies following the four-year Alimiyyah programme. In total these students have been with us on a journey of seeking sacred knowledge for six years. The graduates took part in a special graduation ceremony and were awarded there Ijaza (formal certificate of the chain of transmission) on Saturday 24th February 2018 at The Atrium London.
The ceremony was hosted by Shaykh Shams ad Duha and was opened with a heart warming recitation of the holy Quran by Dawrah Al-Hadith graduates Mohammed Hafizur Rahman and Nazia Khatun. Keynotes speakers included Dr Abdal Hakim Murad (Aziz Foundation) and Hafiz Mushfique Uddin (Ebrahim College).
As part of the ceremony, students followed the ritual of reading narrations of hadith from 6 famous books of Hadith to their teachers, followed by a narration by Shaykh Mujahid Ali illustrating the students’ chain of transmission all the way to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) through Imam Bukhari. Each of the 7 students were presented with a framed chain of transmission (thabat), the institutional graduation certificate and gifts from EC.
Two special awards were presented to Dawrah Al-Hadith students: Suhayl Ahmed for Overall Best Student for academic performance and contribution to College Life, and Urooj Shahid for acknowledgement of perseverance in studies despite overwhelming barriers. Awards included a trip to Makkah and Medina for Umrah sponsored by Ark Royale Banqueting which was presented by founder Mamun Uddin.
Also, graduating on the night were the Alimiyyah and Arabic Intensive students. We had a total of 15 Alimiyyah and 24 Arabic Intensive graduates who received certificates from their teachers, witnessed by proud family members, friends and supporters of EC.
Graduating from the Alimiyyah Programme, Shakil Moazzem reflected on his time during the course: “I have spent the last few months contemplating heavily, what was the point all of this, what have I learnt throughout this journey and what have I gained. After much deliberation I have summarised my journey down to 4 words; sabr (patience), istiqamah (perseverance and steadfastness), juhood (hard work) and finally shukr (gratefulness). I realised after all these years of studying in order for someone to achieve success in his or her studies, whether it would be in Islamic education or secular education, one must have these four qualities.”
Saleha Islam Bukhari, also graduating from the Alimiyyah Programme added: “For the six years that we spent here (Ebrahim College), we have benefitted a great deal from our talented team of teachers who have journeyed with us throughout this growth like family members…we were fortunate to have joined EC at an interesting time, where interestingly enough, we ourselves saw EC graduates develop into becoming our teachers.”
