Course Description
Level 2 of EC’s comprehensive Arabic language programme. The programme incorporates modern and classical Arabic as well as grammar. It is one of the most comprehensive coverages of classical Arabic and grammar available. Students who are looking for serious and focussed study of Arabic in order to access the language of the Quran and Hadith should seriously consider completing the whole Arabic Intensive programme.
Duration:
12 weeks (36 hours in total), 3 hours each lesson
Prerequisites:
The ability to read Arabic and study of Arabic Language Level 1, or its equivalent.Â
Progression: Arabic Language Level 3
Course Brief:
At level 2, the topics below will be covered in conjunction with selected chapters from books such as al-Kitab al-Asasi and tailor made worksheets to help students apply their knowledge of the grammar concepts and develop a broad vocabulary:
- Fi’l al-amr (the Imperative)
- Tasreef of amr al-hadhir al-ma’lum
- Al-Huruf al-jazimah and Amr al-ghaib and al-nahy
- Ba’dhu and kullu
- Al –Dhamairal–Majrurahal–Muttasilahbil–Asma’ (Attached pronouns)
- Al –Dhamairal–Majrurahal-Muttasilah bil-huruf (Attached pronouns in the genitive)
- al-Istifham (interrogation)
- Al-Amr and al-nahy consolidation
- Almudhari’ al-Majzum (the imperfect jussive) and al-Huruf al-Jazimah: Lam
- lamma and adawat al-Shart
- Inna wa akhawatuha
- The conditional sentence
- Al-mudhari’ al-mansub (the imperfect subjunctive) and al-Huruf al-Nasiba
- Kaana wa Akhawatuha (kana and her sisters)
- Al-Asma al-Khamsah and their declension
- Adverbs and al-maf’ul fih
- Al-Asma’ almawsulah (relative pronouns)
- Arabic noun forms and their structure
- The verbal noun (al-Masdar)
- Al-I’rab al-mahalli (positional declension)
- al-Mu’rab (the declinable) and al-Mabni (the indeclinable) in review
- The declension of all nouns and verbs
- Numbers (cardinal)
- Numbers (ordinal)
Assessment
Students will be assessed at the end of the course.
Course Delivery
This course is run either onsite or online. When registering, please choose your preferred option/platform. Please note, we may not have both options available in the same term.
