Course Description
Level 3 Arabic continues on from Level 2 and complete the key grammar topics necessary to access Arabic texts. Students will also begin studying some Arabic texts, as well as develop confidence in I’rab translation and composition.
Duration:
12 weeks (36 hours in total), 3 hours each lesson
Prerequisites:
The ability to read Arabic and study of Arabic Language Level 2, or its equivalent.
Progression:
Students who complete this may progress to Arabic Language Level 4.
Course Brief
At level 3, the topics below will be covered in conjunction with selected chapters from books such as al-Kitab al-Asasi, Qasas al-Nabiyyeen along with tailor made worksheets to help students apply their knowledge of the grammar concepts and develop a broad vocabulary:
- Ghair Munsarif – The partially inflected nouns
- Adverbial & Abstract nouns: different adverbs and adverbial usage
- The cases (overview)The Doer, Passive Doer and Object
- Subject & Predicate (detailed)
- The Five nouns
- ما و لاwhich resembles ليس
- لاَ لِنَفْيِ الْجِنْس– Absolute Negation with Laa
- المفاعيل– The Objects
- -·إعْرَابُ الْاسْمِ الْمُتَمَكِّن Vowelization of the declinable nouns
- Chapters of derived triliteral verbs – past and present with all the different forms
- The changes that apply to the imperfect verb (mudhari):
- The letters of nasibah
- The letters of Jazimah
- الْأَمْرُ Comprehensive amr; Al-mukhatab and al-gaib wal Mutakallim.
- النهي Prohibitive verb.
- The Derivative nouns
- Introduction to the Further Classifications of verbs:
- The weak verbs – Mu’tal: The Assimilated verb, The hollow verb and the defective verb
Assessment
Students will be assessed at the end of the course.
Course Delivery
This course is run either onsite or online. When registering, please choose your preferred option/platform. Please note, we may not have both options available in the same term.
