Course Description:
This course is a study about the main schools of thoughts (Al-Madhahib), the reasons of Ikhtilaf and to weigh between differences in opinions.
Level: Alimiyyah Programme Year 4
Context:
This module follows on from the course of AL2 and AL3 Usul Al-Fiqh. It is a unit in a comprehensive package of modules covering various Islamic sciences including hadith, tafsir, fiqh, aqidah and Arabic literature taught in the Alimiyyah 4 programme.
Learning Outcomes:
All students will be able to:
- Show understanding of the different types of opinions and show respect towards the other madhahib.
- Demonstrate the reality of Ikhtilaf and the impossibility to unite between the madahib.
Some advanced students will be able to:
- Find more reasons of ikhtilaf and their implications on Islamic fiqh
The most advanced students will be able to:
- Choose the opinion they believe is the best among all the opinions and their evidences for that
Prerequisites:
Students must have completed an ‘Usul al-Fiqh’ course or equivalent as a prerequisite. Students must also have a good functional understanding of Arabic Grammar, familiarity with Qur’anic Arabic and a basic understanding of al-madhab and its concepts.
Teaching and Learning Strategies:
The classes will be conducted through lectures and discussions.
Course Delivery:
This course will be delivered on campus and streamed live online using an online live streaming platform called ‘Zoom’. Lessons will be recorded and students provided access to them. Further details will be emailed to students 5 days before the course commences insha Allah.
