Course Description:
This course covers the history of the Qur’an, key Qur’anic themes, prerequisites for exegesis, exegetical principles and history of exegesis.
Context:
Students have already been studying the Qur’an for over a year and have had some exposed to some concepts from Qur’anic studies.
This course supplements that piecemeal knowledge by allowing them to gain a comprehensive overview of Qur’anic studies.
This course will allow students to go on to more advanced Qur’anic studies, having developed familiarity with the key concepts in the field.
Learning Objectives:
- Introduce students to key Qur’anic studies concepts
- Make students aware of some of the contested topics in Qur’anic studies such as abrogation and variant readings
- Present students to some of the basic causes of different exegesis and how they can be resolved
Prerequisites:
Students must have completed Alimiyyah Year 1 or equivalent course.
Teaching and Learning Strategies:
The classes will be conducted through lectures and discussions.
Course Delivery:
This course will be delivered on campus and streamed live online using an online live streaming platform called ‘Zoom’. Lessons will be recorded and students provided access to them. Further details will be emailed to students 5 days before the course commences insha Allah.
