Course Description:
Students will study Burhan al-Dīn al-Marghīnānī’s Al-Hidayah and Ibn ‘Abidin’s Rasm al-Mufti to understand the internal coherence of the Hanafi school and learn how to research the preponderant opinion within the legal school.
Level: Alimiyyah Programme Year 4
Context:
Students will focus on developing their knowledge of the Hanafi legal school, combining a detailed study of positive law with a study of underlying legal principles, as well as understanding the internal hierarchy of authority within the school and how social and political circumstances can affect the development of the law.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the following:
- specified subject content
- legal terminologies and concepts
- masā’il of worship, transaction and personal law (marriage and divorce)
Students will gain the following skills:
- solve Fiqhi problems relating to worship, transaction and personal law (marriage and divorce)
- demonstrate basic critical thinking skills
Prerequisites:
Applicants must be able to read and understand Arabic. They should have studied basic Fiqh in Arabic.
Teaching and Learning Strategies:
Hybrid (blended style), board work, text analysis, worksheets, handouts and workshops
Course Delivery:
This course will be delivered on campus and streamed live online using an online live streaming platform called ‘Zoom’. Lessons will be recorded and students provided access to them. Further details will be emailed to students 5 days before the course commences insha Allah.
